GOAL AND OBJECTIVES:
To provide assistance to member districts in implementing state and federal requirements assuring that students with disabilities receive a free, appropriate education in the least restrictive environment.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The LEA Special Education Supervisors provide services in all areas relating to special education as well as serve as resource specialists for regular classroom teachers and district administrators. Services provided to regular classroom educators include:
- advisory assistance in areas of curriculum
- suggestions for modifications of regular classrooms for handicapped students
- in-service programs addressing identified needs
Services provided to special education teachers include:
- completion of forms and technical assistance in Due Process, testing services
- instructional assistance with programs for handicapped students including materials, teaching methods, and in-service programs
Services to district administrators include:
- budget preparation, amendments and reports
- development of new programs
- assistance with technical issues in Due Process
- interagency resources advisement
- preparation for Arkansas Department of Education monitoring, and in-service programs
